Which revenue sets the band

The band is set on the annual revenue of the provider as a whole, across every support type it delivers, taken from its most recent financial statements. It applies in the same way to a registered and an unregistered provider. Where the provider trades through more than one entity, the first is included and each additional entity that has to be analysed is $795 plus GST. We confirm the band and the entities in scope before the engagement is signed.

How the fee is worked out

Each row applies the band rule and the additional entity fee to a hypothetical engagement. The rows illustrate the arithmetic, not what businesses in this sector typically earn. All fees plus GST.

Which tier

The purpose of the valuation picks the tier

  • Valuation report

The full independent valuation for a sale or purchase, a co-owner buying in or leaving on agreed terms, a restructure into a company or a tax matter. It costs $1,495, $2,495 or $3,495 plus GST, quoted in writing above $10 million depending on revenue.

  • Expert report

For a dispute between the owners of a provider, where the other side will test the conclusion. It starts at $4,495 plus GST.

What you are paying for

What the fee covers in an NDIS business valuation

The fee covers the whole engagement as scoped: the analysis, the valuation and the written report. For an NDIS provider the analysis deals with the matters that decide whether the earnings continue and who could buy them.

  • Registration, and the fact that it does not move with the assets on a sale
  • Participant concentration and service agreements that can be ended on notice
  • Price limits and the margin left once the workforce is paid properly
  • Plan reassessments and scheme reform that change what participants can buy
  • Compliance history: audits, incidents, conditions and any payment reviews
  • The mix of supports: SIL, therapy, plan management and support coordination are valued differently

Fee or commission

Why a valuation costs a fee when a broker appraisal does not

Business brokers who sell NDIS providers will usually give a sale appraisal without charging, because the broker is paid when the provider sells. An appraisal estimates a listing price. It is not an independent opinion of value, because the person giving it is paid more when the figure is higher. A valuation is paid for by a fixed fee so that the conclusion has no bearing on what the valuer earns, and it explains how registration, participant concentration and pricing were treated so a buyer, a co-owner or an accountant can test it. The NDIS valuation pages cover each situation.

FAQs

NDIS business valuation fee questions

How much does an NDIS business valuation cost?

Medival values an NDIS business for a fixed fee set by its annual revenue. A full valuation report costs $1,495 for revenue up to $2 million, $2,495 for revenue $2 million to $3 million and $3,495 for revenue $3 million to $10 million, all plus GST. Above $10 million the fee is quoted in writing before work starts. An expert report for a dispute between owners starts at $4,495 plus GST. The fee is agreed in writing before work begins and does not change with the value we reach. Each additional entity that has to be analysed is $795 plus GST. The full schedule is on the pricing page.

Does the fee depend on the value Medival reaches?

No. The fee is fixed for the revenue band and agreed in writing before the work starts, so it cannot move with the conclusion. A valuer who is paid more for a higher figure is not independent, which is why the fee is set this way.

Does an unregistered NDIS provider pay a different fee?

No. The fee is set by annual revenue and is the same for a registered and an unregistered provider. Registration status changes the analysis, because it affects which participants the provider can serve and who could buy the business, but it does not change the fee. The standard valuation report costs $1,495, $2,495 or $3,495 plus GST, quoted in writing above $10 million depending on revenue.

Which fee applies when a co-owner of an NDIS provider is leaving?

Where the owners have agreed to obtain a valuation and act on it, the standard valuation report applies, at $1,495, $2,495 or $3,495 plus GST, quoted in writing above $10 million by revenue. Where the owners are in dispute, the engagement is an expert report, which starts at $4,495 plus GST, because it will be read and tested by the other side. Shareholder exit and buyout explains the difference.
